The progress gets lost in repetition time after time and in chapter after chapter. The pacing progresses as if Olsen wrote the text in segments, allowed a huge hiatus between writings, and then failed to read and edit in the process. Gregg Olsen isn't content in rehashing old news stories about the Letourneau case or, like many true-crime writers today, repackaging newspaper articles and slapping a book together; he digs deep, finds the Teacher Has Sex With His Student story, and gets those exclusive interviews other reporters can only dream of. I particularly liked how Olsen didn't take sides in Mary Kay's story. He simply let us, his readers, decide for ourselves who was victim and villain. To prove this, I encourage anyone to read the first two chapters. You will find exclusive information about Mary Kay like that nowhere else! It spends a long time discussing the surroundings, like the house she was brought up in, its furniture, etc. During the tv interview, I found Mary to be incredibly immature and child like. Villi seemed more mature than she did, yet did not seem "happy" I wanted to see what the book captured about them. This woman stole Villi's childhood and has no regrets about it.
